I am so excited for our six Common Voices
advocates — Vina Drennan, Amy Acton, Bonnie Woodruff, Donna
Henson, Gail Minger and Justina Page — who will be honored
by the Congressional Fire Services Institute and the
National Fallen Firefighters Foundation at the April 2, 2009
CFSI annual dinner in Washington, DC. It is such an honor to
facilitate this special group of ladies who are determined
to create a Fire Safe America by sharing their stories of
tragedy and advocacy. Tragic events are still somewhat of a
mystery in how they affect different people. With the six
ladies listed above, tragic events have motivated them to
get involved and to make a difference. Their legacy is one
of triumph over tragedy, and their voices are stronger
sounding in unison with a common message. America has a fire
problem. Too many people (over 3,000 each year) die
needlessly in America. 84% of these fires occur in our
homes, the one place we feel safest. We can prevent these
tragic fires with the installation of residential fire
sprinklers. To learn more about us, visit
www.fireadvocates.org and help us share the resources and
information that can save lives! |

From a firefighters perspective these ladies
are amazing, because they are the voices we need behind us
to change the publics view on fire safety. They tell the
story of tragedy and loss that none of us can imagine. But
they also tell a story of hope. The hope that one day there
will be fewer fire deaths. As a firefighter I love my job
but I also hate it, because there is never enough that we
can do. These ladies can make everyone’s job and lives a
little easier. |
